Arsenicum album is a homeopathic remedy used for DIARRHEA or ENTERITIS from overeating or from food or garbage poisoning. Thirst for small drinks, restless, possibly painless, foul smelling, watery stools that contain blood.
Gastritis - where vomiting is the main symptom. Arsenicum is a principle remedy for stopping acute vomiting. The vomiting is often accompanied by diarrhea.
Parvovirus (Canine Parvovirus Infection) - Arsenicum is a very effective in the treatment of dogs with parvo. In stopping vomiting and diarrhea this remedy can be life-saving!
Acute Pancreatitis - If there is acute vomiting and diarrhea (also compare Iris-V.)
Mange - For animals that prefer warmth, particularly when flaky dandruff and scales on the skin are present.
Dry Eczema - Especially indicated if eruptions are dry, rough and scaly. Worse for the cold, better for warmth. The animal will be restless and the condition will worsen when scratched. The affected area may be swollen and inflamed.
Restlessness - Extremely restless, unable to settle or sleep for long, moves from place to place.
Fever - Very restless, much sneezing. A desire for warmth and small drinks.
Fear and fright - For anticipatory anxiety or fear (before 'showing' or 'competitions' etc.).
Appetite loss - If there is nausea and or vomiting and diarrhea or if the animal literally walks away from its food as if they can't bear to look at it.
Sweet itch - This condition affects horses. Arsenicum can be used for any of the conditions mentioned, but particularly for Sweet Itch. Indicators for the use of Ars. would be extreme irritation of the affected areas that caused excessive rubbing and biting, making the animal seem very fidgety and restless, particularly in the evening. There may be a sticky, wet exudate which causes 'matting' of the mane and at the base of the tail.
Fading puppy or fading kitten syndrome - for restless, cold, weak babies, possibly with diarrhea.
Feline Infectious Enteritis (FIE) - A very good remedy for cats with this condition. The symptoms of FIE in cats match those of Arsenicum very well in many cases.
Respiratory Attack (Mycoplasma pneumonia in pet rats) - feeling of suffocation, Highest degree of difficult or labored breathing, frantic because they can't breath, Panic, fear and running from place to place, wants to be held. (also compare: Phos., Ipec., Ant. tart., Carbo veg.)
